Advanced Diagnostic Testing

In addition to standard on-site X-ray and laboratory services, Make You Well Sugar Land offers a full suite of advanced diagnostic testing, including:

  • Allergy testing and immunotherapy
  • Cognitive testing
  • EMG (electromyography)
  • Nerve conduction velocity (NCV) studies
  • Sleep studies

These capabilities allow our providers to evaluate and diagnose a broader range of conditions in-house, without the need for outside referrals in many cases.

An electromyography (EMG) test measures the electrical activity of muscles and the nerves that control them. It is used to diagnose conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, pinched nerves, peripheral neuropathy, muscular dystrophy, and other neuromuscular disorders. Your provider may recommend an EMG if you are experiencing unexplained muscle weakness, pain, cramping, or tingling.

A nerve conduction velocity (NCV) study measures how quickly electrical impulses travel through your nerves. It is often performed alongside an EMG to help diagnose conditions affecting the peripheral nervous system, including diabetic neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, and nerve compression injuries. The test is non-invasive and typically takes 30 to 60 minutes.

Cognitive testing evaluates memory, attention, processing speed, language, and other brain functions. It is recommended for patients experiencing memory concerns, difficulty concentrating, changes in thinking, or symptoms that may indicate early cognitive decline, dementia, or conditions such as ADHD. Early testing provides a baseline and helps your provider develop an appropriate care plan.

A sleep study (polysomnography) monitors your brain activity, breathing, heart rate, oxygen levels, and body movements while you sleep to identify sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy. Your provider may recommend a sleep study if you are experiencing chronic fatigue, loud snoring, frequent nighttime waking, or daytime sleepiness that is affecting your quality of life.

Allergy Testing & Immunotherapy

We test for a wide range of environmental and food allergens, including tree, grass, and weed pollens, mold, dust mites, pet dander, insect venom, and common food allergens such as milk, egg, soy, wheat, corn, and yeast. Testing typically involves a skin prick test or intradermal test, during which small amounts of allergens are introduced to the skin and observed for a reaction.

Allergy immunotherapy, commonly known as allergy shots, is a long-term treatment that gradually desensitizes your immune system to the specific allergens that trigger your symptoms. By introducing small, increasing amounts of the allergen over time, your immune system learns to tolerate it rather than overreact. Many patients experience a significant and lasting reduction in allergy symptoms.

Immunotherapy is typically divided into two phases. The build-up phase lasts approximately three to six months, during which you receive weekly injections with gradually increasing doses. The maintenance phase follows and generally continues for three to five years, with less frequent injections. Results are often felt during the build-up phase and continue to improve over time.

Clinical Research Studies

Yes. Make You Well Sugar Land participates in clinical research studies in partnership with Javara. We conduct trials to help find new and better ways of preventing, diagnosing, and treating disease. Speak with your provider at your next visit to find out whether any current studies may be a fit for you.

As a clinical trial participant, you may receive access to new treatments or diagnostics that are not yet widely available. Many trials are offered at no cost to participants, and some provide compensation for your time. All trials are conducted under strict safety protocols and reviewed by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) to protect participant wellbeing.

Eligibility varies by study and is based on factors such as age, diagnosis, medical history, and current medications. If you may be eligible for an ongoing trial, a Javara research team member may contact you on our behalf. You can also ask your provider directly at your next appointment, or call (281) 340-9355 for more information.
